Chihuahua authorities seized thousands of beer cans and the driver of a vehicle carrying the cargo valued at more than one million pesos.
During a press conference on September 1, Undersecretary of the General Staff, Luis Ángel Aguirre Rodríguez, spoke about various actions carried out in the state. Specifically, he highlighted a special operation in the Guadalupe y Calvo region.
“We have seized beer merchandise valued at more than one million 700 thousand pesos, with the seizure of more than 85,944 beer cans, which were turned over to the Ministry of the Interior due to the lack of proper documentation,” the official stated.
During the seizure of the cans of the alcoholic beverage, clothing belonging to a criminal group operating in the area was seized. Aguirre Rodríguez points out that the recent seizure represents a halt to the flow of illicit funds that benefit some criminal organizations.
During the official’s briefing, images were shown showing part of the operation, including various beer cans, camouflage-style uniforms, and firearms.
This type of seizure aims to weaken the logistical and financial capabilities of the criminal group behind the robbery. The merchandise was being transported in a 2016 tractor-trailer that was detected on the highway from the municipality of Parral to Guadalupe y Calvo, near the town of Catedral.
“A driver identified as José Manuel “N,” 34, did not have the necessary documentation to carry out the transport, sale, and distribution of this merchandise,” added Luis Aguilar.
Two men arrested in Chihuahua with thousands of rounds of ammunition
Separately, two individuals from the United States, specifically New Mexico, were arrested in Chihuahua after security agents noticed they were trying to enter the country with 40,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. The men were detained near the “Puerto Palomas” crossing in the municipality of Ascensión.
Fifty-one cardboard boxes containing a total of 40,000 live rounds of ammunition in 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm calibers were found on the men. The boxes containing the material were found inside a blue van after a search by security personnel.
