A group of ten migrants from Africa were rescued in Chihuahua, as they reported having been victims of kidnapping by a criminal group.

The rescue took place on the Chihuahua-Villa Ahumada highway, when police officers were alerted through the 9-1-1 emergency line about the presence of a group of people wandering erratically and in deplorable conditions.

In response to this report, agents of the Deployment Police of the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) went to the place where it was determined that 4 people came from the country of Sudan and 6 from Morocco.

After establishing communication through the interpretation of the English language, the group stated that they had been victims of kidnapping and torture, in addition to being used as a means of extortion towards their families.

Later, personnel from the Mexican Red Cross performed a medical examination that showed indicators of a severe state of dehydration, malnutrition and multiple injuries.

Given these results, the State Investigation Agency (AEI) and the National Migration Institute (INM) were immediately notified in order to investigate what happened and clarify the facts.

The group was transferred to a shelter where they will receive specialized medical and psychological care, as well as legal assistance to resolve their situation.
