The governor of Texas, Republican Greg Abbott, assured on Sunday that he will expand his security operation on the border of the United States with Mexico, for which he has maintained tensions with the Administration of President Joe Biden.

Accompanied by thirteen of his Republican counterparts, Abbott told the press that the Texas National Guard is carrying out operations to expand security measures on the southern border of the state, although he did not give details.

The joint conference took place in Shelby Park, an area of Eagle Pass that is controlled by the Texas soldiers since last month and where the entry of Border Patrol agents to process migrants who have just crossed the Rio Grande is not allowed.

The Republican governor said he has the constitutional right to defend the state against “an invasion”, an idea that he has fueled by the massive arrival of immigrants without legal status.

“We are not going to limit ourselves only to this park,” Abbott added, who had his Republican counterparts and a row of Texas National Guard tanks behind him.

The Republican again charged against the White House and accused President Biden of “abandoning his responsibility to enforce the laws of the United States.”

The governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, also criticized the US president during the press conference and said that Republican governors have to “step up and do the federal government’s job.”

Abbott maintains several legal battles with the Biden Administration over the installation of barbed wire on the border and a buoy barrier on the Rio Grande.
