During a press conference, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum presented the security statistics for the end of 2025, in which Chihuahua stood out as the second state with the most homicides in the country, after Guanajuato.
The Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa, announced that last year, seven states accounted for the highest number of intentional homicides. Guanajuato with 2,539, followed by Chihuahua with 1,791, Baja California with 1,714, Sinaloa with 1,663, the State of Mexico with 1,519, Guerrero in sixth place with 1,312, and Michoacán with 1,267. It should be noted that at the start of the morning press conference, Mayor Sheinbaum stated that the number of homicides had decreased by 40% in the last three months. “From September 2024 to December 2025, intentional homicides decreased by 40 percent. This means 34 fewer homicides per day, and it is the lowest number since 2016.”
