This event will feature more than 1,500 athletes from 30 countries, the majority of them from Europe. The main competition will be the 100-mile category, which promises to challenge runners with a route that highlights the natural beauty of the Sierra Tarahumara.

Chihuahua’s Secretary of Tourism, Edibray Gómez Gallegos, announced that in addition to the 100-mile category, participants will be able to choose between distances of 100, 53, 35, 20, and 8 kilometers.

All routes will culminate in Barrancas del Cobre Park in Urique, an iconic location that will offer a stunning setting for competitors.

The event is estimated to generate an economic impact of more than 10 million pesos, benefiting service providers in the host municipalities and surrounding areas.

Gómez Gallegos also mentioned the support that will be provided to Rarámuri athletes, who will receive funding for their registration and necessary equipment through event sponsors. This measure seeks to encourage the participation of local runners and highlight the culture and traditions of the Rarámuri community in the sports arena.

The Director of Tourism, Alejandra Villalobos, highlighted that the UTMB began in 2023 and has established itself as a world-class qualifying event. The intention is for this competition to be held annually, taking advantage of the geographical characteristics of the Sierra Tarahumara, which is ideal for this type of long-distance race. Villalobos emphasized that the 100-mile course has an elevation gain of 9,000 meters, even exceeding the height of Mount Everest.

The event will not only attract elite athletes but also invites the general population to enjoy the competition and the natural beauty of the region. The participation of world champions in this specialty adds an additional attraction, as this race will qualify for the UTMB World Series Finals, held annually in Chamonix, France.
