Massacre in Ciudad Juárez, armed group kills six people at a wake

An armed group attacked those attending a wake that was taking place in a house in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, with bullets, leaving six men dead, and another seriously injured.

According to the State Attorney General’s Office, the commando broke into the house and opened fire on the people. Five men died at the scene and a sixth died when he was transferred to receive medical attention, according to ‘La Jornada’.

Police authorities reported that the massacre occurred after midnight, in the house where they were watching the body of a young man who was shot dead last Wednesday, January 24th.


According to witnesses, the armed men arrived aboard three trucks and entered the house, where they began shooting at the people who were next to the coffin.

Elements of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) arrived at the location, located in Alfonso Lázaro Alanís and Liviano Galaviz, in the Héroes de la Revolución Mexicana neighborhood, after being alerted by the help calls received at 00:00 in the Center of Emergencies and Immediate Response (CERI).

The current six-year period registers the highest number of homicides, according to Inegi data

According to the most recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), from January to June 2023, 15,082 homicides were recorded, thus accumulating a total of 160,594 murders that have occurred so far in the six-year term of President Andrés Manuel López. Obrador.

This figure is the highest since 1990 when Inegi began recording the number of homicides.

In the six-year term immediately preceding the current one, headed by Enrique Peña Nieto, 156,066 murders were recorded; with Felipe Calderón there were 120,463.
