More than 60 pounds of methamphetamine product of Mexico were seized at Alamogordo, NM

CIUDAD jUAREZ On Monday, Nov. 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Alamogordo Border Patrol checkpoint seized just over 60 pounds of methamphetamine.

The 60.67 pounds of methamphetamine was found in 51 packages wrapped in brown plastic and placed throughout a black Nissan sedan bearing a Mexican license plate, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release states.

The black Nissan sedan had a driver and a passenger in it.

The methamphetamine seized has an approximate street value of $150,000, according to a tweet by U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez.

“Border Patrol Agents assigned to immigration checkpoint operations have the vital responsibility of interdicting persons who have entered our country illegally attempting to egress away from the border area further into the United States,” Chavez said in the news release.

“While exercising this authority, our Border Patrol agents regularly seize narcotics quickly disrupting the illicit activity by Transnational Criminal Organizations operating in our West Texas and New Mexico region.”

During the 2021 fiscal year, the U.S. Border Patrol seized 802 pounds of methamphetamine in the El Paso Sector alone, the news release stated.

Since fiscal year 2022 began in October, El Paso sector has seized 34 pounds of methamphetamine.
