The legislator emphasized that the reforms to the local Constitution and the Electoral Law aim to safeguard the 2027 elections from the interference of criminal groups, through legal mechanisms that allow action against parties or candidates benefiting from these practices.

Chávez explained that during the analysis of the initiative, technical adjustments were made in coordination with electoral authorities and representatives of various political forces to guarantee the legal viability of the new provisions.

“If the Electoral Law passes today, it will be the first electoral law in the entire country that contemplates the annulment of an election due to the intervention of organized crime,” he stated.

He detailed that the legislation will establish specific grounds that must be consistently and permanently proven throughout the electoral process, preventing discretionary interpretations by the authorities.

He also noted that the reform includes consequences for the political parties involved, including the possibility of losing their registration when their connection to illicit activities that affect the legality of the elections is demonstrated.

The PAN coordinator asserted that the proposal was enriched by contributions from legislators of various political parties, party leaders, and electoral bodies, resulting in a bill with broad political support.

Finally, he expressed his confidence that the reforms would be approved and affirmed that they would set a national precedent in combating the infiltration of organized crime into democratic processes.
