On Friday, authorities confirmed the seizure of a condominium called “Cabaña El Rincón” in the Sierra Tarahumara mountains, allegedly owned by former Chihuahua Governor Javier Corral Jurado.
The seizure was carried out by the Chihuahua State Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, which detailed that the property is located in an exclusive area of the Sierra Tarahumara, within a protected natural area. The property is registered in the Ocampo Municipal Cadastre Office under the former governor’s name.
Officially, it was reported that the operation took place on Friday, January 16, in the municipality of Ocampo, the municipal seat of Basaseachi, by members of the Chihuahua State Air Force (FACH).
This action was taken in compliance with a court order issued by a judge on the morning of Thursday, January 15. The court officials carried out the necessary procedures with the Ocampo City Hall to update the property’s cadastral record.
According to the information gathered, the cabin is located in a mountainous area with abundant vegetation in that region and has a rustic style; this property is included in the asset declaration of the now-accused.
As detailed, the seizure of the Cadastral Key for this property is part of the proceedings being carried out within investigation file 3050/2024, which stems from a complaint filed by the State Audit Office (ASE). This seizure constitutes a legally established investigative technique under the National Code of Criminal Procedure (CNPP) and is carried out to prevent this property from being transferred, sold, or encumbered in any way while the corresponding investigations continue.
This seizure is also part of the various confiscations carried out against different defendants in this same investigation file, including in other states such as Tepoztlán, Morelos.
Once secured, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is authorized to carry out various procedures on the property to ensure that it can be used for the eventual recovery or compensation of the damage caused to the people of Chihuahua, amounting to 98.6 million pesos, which were improperly misappropriated, diverted, and disposed of.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office asserts that this legal measure aims to prevent the simulation of acts of disposal or the transfer of the investigated assets to related third parties, including support networks comprised of family members and/or former public servants who were actively involved during the five-year period from 2016 to 2021.
It is worth noting that this action comes just days after the former governor himself announced that a Collegiate Court based in the state of Chihuahua ordered the case against the Morena senator to be transferred to federal jurisdiction.
In a document that was made public, it was detailed that on January 9, the First Collegiate Court in Criminal and Administrative Matters of the Seventeenth Circuit, based in Chihuahua, resolved the jurisdictional conflict 20/2025, declaring the jurisdiction of the federal court to hear the alleged crime of embezzlement imputed to Javier Corral and others.
