To encourage bean consumption, the Bean Product System invites citizens to participate in the contest “Preparing Healthy, Sweet, and Savory Bean-Based Dishes.” The deadline to submit your recipe is August 15th. The best dishes will be presented at Expo Agro Internacional Chihuahua 2025.
Since ancient times, beans have been a source of strength, health, and flavor, as well as iron, fiber, protein, antioxidants, and other nutrients—in short, a small nutritional giant that protects your well-being and that of your family.
In recent years, bean consumption has dropped from 16 kilograms per capita to 8 kilograms, reported Héctor Hernán Hernández Alderete, president of the Bean Product System in Chihuahua. He added that beans strengthen the immune system and prevent cardiovascular disease; they stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels; they help lower blood glucose and cholesterol; and they are also anticancer.
Additionally, the goal is to encourage its purchase so that the primary sector can continue producing this staple grain.
The contest aims to promote the creation of healthy, traditional, and innovative bean-based recipes among the population of the state of Chihuahua. It is intended to harness culinary creativity to revive traditional food culture and encourage the Chihuahuan population to use them in their daily preparations.
It should be noted that Chihuahua is one of the eight states that produce three-quarters of the national production of this grain, along with Zacatecas, Sinaloa, Durango, Chihuahua, Chiapas, Nayarit, Guanajuato, and San Luis Potosí. In the state, more than 80,000 hectares were established during the storm that occurred in July.
In response, the Bean Product System invites you to participate in this contest, which is part of the “Beans, a Tradition that Nourishes” promotional campaign. Beans are an ideal source of slow-absorbing carbohydrates, high in folic acid, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin, and provide magnesium, potassium, zinc, calcium, and phosphorus.
All interested parties may submit their sweet and savory bean-based recipes by August 15, 2025, to [email protected]. They must complete the form located on the website https://www.frijol-mexicano.com/.
The email must include, in Word format, Arial 12 font, the following: the participant’s full name, activity, municipality, state, telephone number with area code, recipe title, recipe details, and a high-resolution or photographic quality photo of the dish.
All recipes with the participant’s name will be included in the 2026 edition of the “Beans, Tradition that Feeds” cookbook and will include a certificate of participation.
Each participant may submit a maximum of two different recipes (one sweet and one savory).
An evaluation committee will select the finalists, who will be duly informed, as the grand finale will be held at Expo Agro Internacional Chihuahua 2025, held at the Chihuahua Convention Center on September 11.
The judging panel will consider the recipe’s nutritional value, flavor, aroma, texture, originality, cleanliness, and assembly.
