A landslide resulting from this weekend’s rains in the Sierra Tarahumara affected kilometers 84+500 and 85+000 of the San Pedro-Creel-Guachochi highway section, reported the state Secretariat of Communications and Public Works (SCOP), which deployed machinery to remove rocks and debris.
Other storm damage in the state of Chihuahua on Saturday occurred on the Pan-American Highway, where vehicles were reported stranded at kilometers 62, 86, and 90 due to rain and hail between 8:55 and 9:10 p.m.
In the city of Chihuahua, rain and hail were reported between 9:17 and 9:23 p.m., flooding roads and immobilizing vehicles.
Other municipalities in the state that were affected include Namiquipa, where hailstorms caused the temporary closure of the highway to Cuauhtémoc, and the Santa María River was reported to have overflowed in the towns of El Terrero and El Molino.
In Gómez Farías, a thunderstorm with gusty winds occurred; in Bachíniva, the Bachíniva-Soto Máynez highway section in the Moctezuma Ejido was closed again.
