A major infrastructure project has been given the go-ahead after President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo approved the concession for the long-awaited Topolobampo-Chihuahua Highway.
The initiative, which will connect the port of Topolobampo to the border municipality of Ojinaga in Chihuahua, is a result of efforts by Governor Rubén Rocha Moya. The Sinaloa governor revealed that he discussed the project with President Sheinbaum during her visit to Mazatlán over the weekend.
According to Rocha Moya, the president acknowledged budgetary constraints but expressed willingness to implement the project through a concession agreement. “She told me: ‘Look, we have budgetary difficulties; but we already discussed it, and I told her that there is a possibility, which I had already discussed with President Andrés Manuel, and there is already a project for that, that the highway could be built under a concession,'” he recalled.
The president instructed Rocha Moya to submit the necessary documents to Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina for review. The governor emphasized that this project would have significant economic benefits, as it will connect two major transportation hubs and generate an estimated 6 billion peso investment.
Rocha Moya also noted that he has discussed the project with Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos, highlighting that only a small portion of highway is needed to be built. “It would only be a bridge to cross the Donaldo Colosio Dam, a line, and a section of highway that’s missing in Chihuahua,” Rocha Moya explained. He added that this project will allow private companies to invest and generate revenue for both states.
The approval of this project is seen as a significant milestone in the development of Sinaloa and Chihuahua, and it is expected to boost trade and commerce between the two regions.
