
According to El Paso Times, three men were arrested, and more than 58 pounds of cocaine were seized in a multi-agency operation in Juárez over the weekend, authorities said.
The drug bust was part of Operación Frontera Norte (Operation Northern Border), the deployment of Mexican military forces to curb drug trafficking along the U.S. border.
Three men were arrested on drug charges after 25 brick-shaped packages of cocaine were found in a white 2014 Honda CRV in a traffic takedown about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, on Luis Urbina street by Efren Ornelas Street in the Reforma neighborhood in the middle of Juárez, the Chihuahua Attorney General’s Office said in a news statement.
Those arrested were identified as Jaime Joel L.Z., 47, Gustavo Adolfo C.H., 22, and Benito A.A., 55. Last names were not revealed by authorities in keeping with rules in Mexico regarding the identification of crime suspects.
The case was coordinated by Chihuahua’s State Investigations Agency along with the Mexican army and National Guard as well as Juárez police.
Kilo of ‘rock cocaine’
It was the second significant cocaine seizure in Juárez in a week.
On Thursday afternoon, Feb. 27, the State Investigations Agency arrested Luis Carlos O.M., 22, on drug charges after agents found a kilo of what was described as “rock cocaine” in a 2023 Honda City car he was driving in the Orvieto residential area in northeast Juárez, officials said.
