The murder of the chief inspector of the Chihuahua State Police, Víctor Hugo Sosa Martínez, which occurred on Monday in the Villas del Real neighborhood, reflects the impact of the war between cartels for control of drug trafficking, especially crystal meth, on police corporations.
According to Diario de Juárez, this crime shows the infiltration of criminal networks in the security forces, where the connection of police officers with organized crime has become normalized.
Sosa Martínez was executed near his home, and in a bag he was carrying a small amount of crystal meth was found, a drug that is the most consumed by approximately 70-80% of addicts in the region.
The agent had been pointed out on a narcomanta, accused of being in collusion with criminal groups
Sosa Martínez’s name had appeared on a narcomanta in December 2023, accusing him of extortion, drug sales, and protection of criminal groups. Although the State Public Security Secretary, Gilberto Loya, promised to investigate, no information was given on the results.
At the crime scene, shell casings from three 9 mm caliber weapons were found, suggesting the involvement of a criminal group, possibly “La Empresa,” affiliated with the Juarez Cartel. In addition, four alleged members of this group were arrested, although they have not been formally charged.
The SSPE acknowledged that Sosa Martinez was carrying drugs and two gram scales, which has raised doubts about his possible involvement in illegal activities. This case underscores the complexity of the fight against drug trafficking and corruption within security institutions.
