“We have four rescue vehicles on the lookout for any incidents”
In the period between May and July of this year, approximately 600 vehicle accidents were reported on the Chihuahua-Juarez highway, which represented an increase of nearly 300 percent compared to other months with less traffic, reported the Secretary of Public Works of the State, Jorge Chanez.
He mentioned that the accidents are related to the poor condition of the federal roads, which makes this stretch one of the most dangerous due to the
ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS The Pan-American Highway, in the stretch from the capital to the border, is one of those with the highest incidence of accidents.
The official pointed out that, in comparison, the Chihuahua-Delicias highway has had a lower rate of accidents, with approximately 60 recorded in the same period.
However, he stressed that although the numbers on this road are lower, attention remains constant to ensure the safety of motorists.
The secretary explained that the agency has deployed rescue teams on state highways, managing to assist more than 140 affected cars.
“We have four rescue vehicles on the lookout for any incident, especially during the holiday seasons such as the one approaching in December, when there is a very high flow,” he said.
He assured that they will continue to monitor critical sections to address the situations that are reported during the rest of the year.
Another of the roads that stand out for the number of accidents is the one from Chihuahua to Parral, where vehicles constantly suffer damage due to the poor condition of the asphalt.
However, the Panamericana has even been reported by insurance companies, since in addition to providing coverage to users of toll roads, they serve those who travel on federal sections.
They stressed that the incidence is such that in June it was necessary to place permanent adjusters at the toll booths to deal with the mishaps that occurred, which ranged from a flat tire to overturns.
They also revealed that in one weekend they attended to around 50 incidents.
Chánez mentioned that due to the state in which the federal highways are currently, they need around 12 billion pesos to rehabilitate them, since it is necessary to completely change the pavement in the most damaged parts.
