Morelia, Michoacan (January 5, 2021).- The former mayor of Aquila, Juan Hernández Ramírez, and his 18-year-old son were executed by several armed men in the coastal community of Maruata, authorities from this Nahua region reported.
The former municipal president was at his home when he was the victim of the attack by subjects who arrived at the scene on motorcycles and later fled.
Hernández Ramírez had previously denounced to the press that he had received several death threats from members of organized crime.
In 2014, after the self-defense groups had emerged in that area, Juan Hernández appeared in some photographs next to the now detained Servando Gómez Martínez, La Tuta , leader of the Los Caballeros Templarios Cartel , for which he was questioned for alleged links with organized crime.
The former mayor was arrested in June 2015 for attempted murder of the then leader of the self-defense groups of Ostula, Cemeí Verdia, for which he was imprisoned, but the crime was not finally proven.
In this same coastal town of Maruata, her sister-in-law Luisa García was shot to death in 2018 and her husband was kidnapped by an armed group.
